No, not the whole Trust & Betrayel shenanigans(sharingans?! xDDD)nor the ugly, ugly mess that has become of the title “Samurai X”, which, although is an “inventive” name perhaps, fails to even address my dear and utterly noble Shinta properly. He was NOT a Samurai. HE WAS A FARMER CHILD. That and Seijiro Hiko (I think I spelled his name wrong; it’s been too long) is like utter god.
See, samurai are samurai by class. Just because you’re a swordsman doesn’t mean you’re a samurai. Forgive me if I get some facts wrong; things escape my mind, but he was a peasant, and his family was killed by bandits. D:
But then he just had to kill Tomoe’s fiance… (Psssh why get into the whole Tokugawa bodyguard business if you want to get yourself killed?! Pride?! Pshhh) and Tomoe goes on this revenge spree. Of course, she falls in love with him in that usual but ironic twist of fate… and ends up dying because she was his “sheath.” You would think I had no sympathy the way I described her. BUT SHE IS LIKE THE MOST AWESOME FEMALE CHARACTER EVER. <3 TOMOE. On the other hand, Enishi is just a little brat that can go die (before Kenshin is FINALLY able to communicate the truth of the matter in the Jinchuu/revenge arc).
So a little more about Tomoe. I think any woman would like to have a husband of at least some status. In the sense that she was suggesting it. =\ Her fiance foolishly chose to become a bodyguard, of all things. And I'm a rather vengeful girl. But actually accepting Kenshin~ and learning of his noble nature. He did kill to protect his dream of a more peaceful future, no? And then she protected him. Cared for him. Taught him to live happily. Unlike Kaoru, who only built on what Tomoe had brought him. Then again, Kaoru grows on you towards the end, in that she attempts to protect him as Tomoe had done. Only problem is, she didn't actually die, which is good for Kenshin, but I'd rather have Kaoru die and Tomoe live. (If you haven't noticed, I tend to like female characters that have died... mainly I've always been on the Kikyo + Tomoe side as opposed to the Kagome + Kaoru side ^^;). But yeah, I loved Tomoe's character. T_T And every time I watch Tsuikohen, I can't keep myself from crying. It's just that good. It's different from Ichi Rittoru no Namida or some other sappy love story~.
In other news, RurouKen (I think I'm one of the few people, if any, that keep the u in RuroKen) got me into Japanese history. Okay, so I'm not that into it~ But Shisengumi and Saitou and Okita (tuburculosis because I can't spell~), who, although had an actual appearance, was the model behind Seta Soujirou who is just too adorable), and the Bakufu at the end of Tokugawa. Hmm... see... in some way... My ideals go against the Isshin Shishi patriots just because... they probably never would've gone about as they had done without western influence, but you have to say Rurouni Kenshin makes me partial. I TOTALLY BLAME THIS ALL ON WESTERN IMPERIALISM. THEY SHOULD'VE MINDED THEIR OWN BUSINESSES AND LET ASIA LIVE IN THEIR OWN LITTLE SPHERE. MAYBE THERE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO MUCH OF A WAR IF IT WEREN'T FOR THOSE LAND-THIRSTY WESTERN PEOPLE AND HITLER. That's wrong to judge. There will always be wars. No one's to blame but everyone from everywhere. Just because one country started a war, I think it's hard to blame anything on that country. After all, it's a part of human nature. And if you're pointing fingers, chances are you've also done something.
So in other news. Would you prefer Hitokiri Battousai or sakabatou weilding rurouni?
WATSUKI-SENSEI IS PURE AND UTTER BRILLIANCE.
Other people start new anime. I finish/rewatch old ones. They were so much better before they became mainstream in the States. >>;
So… maybe I should watch a bit of Seisouhen… just to see grown-up Enishi in anime form. See, the anime did an awesome job of extending the story of Tomoe and Kenshin from the manga. Seisouhen just sucked. And for those of you who want/don’t want spoilers. KENSHIN DOESN’T DIE IN THE MANGA.
AISHITTERUUUUU
In general, I’m a pacifist. Or rather, I think wars are inevitable~ But I’d prefer to be an isolationist. I’M A WEIRD PERSON LIKE HIRAM JOHNSON OR WHATEVER HIS NAME WAS FROM US HISTORY.
Actually, I think FDR’s history is interesting. I don’t think Hiroshima and Nagasaki deserved to be bombed. And I know in general Chinese people (older generation or uber nationalists) hate Japanese people. But that’s generalizing too far. It was a select few. And you take them out on all people. That’s how stereotypes begin. And if you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty much a Chinese japanophile. Though, Asian stuff in general captivates me.
So all in all… Perry shouldn’t have gone to Japan. -_-
While I don’t have the strongest argument for my views… Yes, I can go on day-long rants about this while researching. What a nice topic this would be to have a project on. :O Maybe I’ll do that over the summer. Not-quite-investigative research. <3
